Speedway Children’s Charities to help young Races
Speedway Children’s Charities is a unique nonprofit organization that strives to help youth in need. Tout rather than a specific program, this body of rock on the needs of each community and help fund other organizations that help with educational, financial, social and medical needs of young people.
Founded in 1982, the national nonprofit was founded by Bruton Smith, chairman of Speedway Motorsports and Sonic Automotive. The idea of charity was a way to honor the son of Smith, Bruton Cameron Smith, who died in their youth.
Speedway functions as more than a fundraiser, but also serves as a supporting partner organizations. Thus, the group is able to work in communities across the country to identify issues at the local level and address them. So far, Speedway has worked with more than 500 nonprofit organizations working on issues such as learning disabilities, children and cancer.
Speedway is largely dependent on donors and volunteers alike. Uses its volunteer program to help people at events, with fundraising and in the capabilities of office.
In 2008, Speedway had a busy year. Was raised and awarded more than $ 3.4 million to more than 420 organizations operating in communities throughout the United States. The national organization has located a number of branches. These include chapters in Atlanta, Charlotte, Las Vegas, New Hampshire and Sonoma.
Technically, based in North Carolina, Speedway Children’s Charities raises money for its work in a number of different ways. Accepts direct contributions through its Web site at www.speedwaycharities.org and also hosts a series of special events throughout the year. Mainly related to race, some of the coming events in 2009 include:
• Tony Stewart Smoke Show – August 4-5 This event, designed to benefit Speedway Charities efforts in Texas, will have a fantasy camp, with training tips and driving Tony Stewart. Participants may also drive a real NASCAR car. Last year the event raised more than $ 250,000 in a single day. This event has a number of different levels of access for participants, ranging from a one-day visit to the event from $ 6,000 to a deluxe two-day driving experience of $ 16,500.
• The IndyCar Grand Prix Banquet – Set August 21, this includes a fundraising dinner at the BR Cohn Winery in Sonoma. The proceeds benefit the Sonoma County chapter.
• Kruz’n 4 Kids – Set for September 5, this event is held in Atlanta and there will be a trip on a motorcycle as a fundraiser. Takes place at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Helping young people a question at a time, Speedway Children’s Charities is dedicated to give communities the support they need for their young people to thrive. To make contributions to local organizations working directly with young people in need, this allows the nonprofit organizations in the trenches for the support they need to make a difference.
